Canon Explains Exposure

Being a Nikon shooter I tend to forget our Canon friends. Therefor for our new Canon photographer out in the world I have the following beginner lessons brought to you by Canon.

Although these lessons assume using a Canon camera it goes without saying 'Exposure' control is universal to all other make and model cameras from the various manufactures. What would be learned here would certainly be true for every camera and photographer looking to make their mark with their best image. Only the name of the buttons and functions would change to protect the somewhat innocent.

Look for the link at the bottom of this page for the equivalent Nikon pages for beginners.

Take Creative Control of Your Photos (© Canon Canada Inc., 2014) A Canon DSLR in Auto mode produces amazing photos, but real creative control comes when you step outside of Auto. Learn the basic elements of Exposure and how simple adjustments create beautiful photo effects.

Trey Ratcliff's Burning Man

I can't say I've been a big a fan of Burning Man, a week-long annual event held in the Black Rock Desert in northern Nevada. However thanks to Trey Ratcliff and his fantastic images of the event I'm now a follower with the need to share those same images.

Patrick "K.C." Saulet Fired

Bad Boys, Bad Boys, whatcha gonna do when they come for you ...

Sheriff Fires Cop Who Threatened to Arrest Me for Taking Photos of Cops theStranger
  Quote: Sheriff Urquhart ...
  • "You have a constitutional right to photograph the police.
  • "Threatening to arrest a citizen for legally taking photos of cops while on public property, is a constitutional violation, as far as I am concerned."
  • "Your ill-advised actions also play to some of the most basic fears among some citizens, which is that a police officer may indiscriminately exercise his or her power in violation of their rights ~ sheriff's [Urquhart] letter to Saulet."
  • "Saulet and his union may try to appeal but, as of today, Urquhart says they have not. "
  • "Saulet has long history of misconduct, with approximately 120 allegations against him and 21 cases of sustained misconduct (more than any other officer in the department). The sheriff's letter says that Saulet repeatedly was told to improve interactions with the public."
  •  "Saulet was demoted from sergeant to deputy for another incident in August."
  • "Most cops are not problem cops. Most work hard and keep us safe. It's miserable that abusive cops ruin those good cops' reputations, and if we're going to get from here to a place where the public trusts the police more, it will require police brass continuing to punish the bad apples, as Urquhart has done. "

What began as a research tool continues because of a photographer's passion for history and their fascination with the subject. We're presented with WW2 images combined with present day images giving everyone a fascinating look at history through a collection of 'then and now' photographs.

PRESS (dailymail.co.uk): The Ghosts of WW2: The photographs found at flea markets superimposed on to modern street scenes. Images depict almost transparent soldiers racing through our streets as they look today. Fascinating series shows contrast between war-torn cities in the 1930s and 1940s and pleasant neighbourhoods now.
